oil or watercolour picture

Welcome

Welcome to my website.I am a full time painter, living in Toronto, with my partner and children.

I studied illustration and fine art at the Ontario College of Art and Design from 1981 to 1985. Through the following twelve years, while raising my three children, I worked part time as an illustrator. As they grew and became more independent I expanded into professional mural painting, and gradually moved full time into fine art.

Although watercolour was my first love – I am an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour – I find oil paint to be the ideal medium to express the poetic and evocative qualities integral to my work.

Landscape is my preferred subject. Ever changing light on the land, shifting patterns of cloud, water still or lively, sentinels of trees; these offer an esthetically pleasing means of composing a canvas. But more importantly to me, the landscape represents deep and profound thoughts and feelings about nature and our place within it, about the concept of inexorable change and the passage of time.

Also, my paintings of Ontario depict our home; intrinsically beautiful places that are often taken for granted; they are a reminder of the poetry, tranquility and fragility of our environment. Whenever possible, I head north to hike, camp and observe, to make oil sketches and photographs, and to gather inspiration and rejuvenation from the land.
